We had a great day at the heirloom seed trial farm tour and potluck! We visited three farms that are growing numerous varieties in our Great Lakes heirloom seed trial. First stop was Capella Farm. Jennifer Kangas showed us around her beautiful farm. You can check our her website here. Great Lakes Heirloom Seed trail varieties include (but not limited to):

Dwarf Gray Sugar Snap Pea

Next stop was Living Stones Farm. They sell at the Dearborn Market and have a 40 member CSA. They have two farming locations and we went to the one located at the Northwest corner of Textile and Carpenter in Ypsi.

Amy Heath showed us around and talk all about the amazing work they do. To learn more about transitional job training and empowerment opportunities for those returning from incarceration see their website here.We even had a chance to help out and pull some weeds around the broccoli.

Tilian Barn

We got three tours in one at Tilian! Mark from Seeley Farm showed us around Tilian Farm Development Center which includes Seeley Farm (Greens), Bending Sickle Farm (Meat CSA), and Green Things Farms (Produce CSA).

Mark and Alex at Seeley are growing all our Heirloom Seed Trial lettuce varieties. We even got to help harvest them and then eat them at the potluck!
